Dead Presidents 2002: A Grave Odyssey

US Map

In February of 2002 I moved from Irvine, California to Westfield, Massachusetts. The map above shows the route I took. Originally I was planning on going north from Texas to Iowa and then east from there, but when I found out that I would be driving during the winter I decided that it would be better to take a more southerly route.

My trip was 3973 miles long and took me through 14 states. I was very lucky and had no rain or snow the whole way. And even though I went during the middle of winter, the temperature was rarely below freezing.

For a long time I have enjoyed visiting cemeteries and have been fascinated by the United States Presidency so I combined the two and visited the burial sites of six Presidents and the future burial site of one. Some day I hope to visit the rest of them.

I really enjoyed driving across the country and I'm glad that I've settled in New England. My biggest regret about the trip is that I didn't have more time on the road. There are a lot of places to visit out there.
